Right to Information Act-2005


Dear all we had Right to Information Act-2005 (RTI Act-2005) module. It was really interesting subject. As an Indian citizen I feel each and every Indian should know about Right to Information Act-2005. It provides legal framework for citizens to access information from any government offices. The main objective of this RTI Act-2005 is to promote transparency and accountability in the functioning of every public authority. RTI Act-2005 covers center, state and all the local government. It also covers bodies which are owned, control and financed by government. Private bodies are not come under RTI Act-2005. 

Information
·        Request any information (as defined).   
·        Obtain copies of documents.
·        Inspect documents, works and records.
·       Take certified samples of materials of work.
·      Obtain information in form of diskettes, floppies, tapes, video cassettes 'or in any other electronic mode' or through printouts.

Payment Details 
An applicant, along with her/his application, is required to pay a sum of Rs.I0/- as application fee (In cash / demand draft or an Indian Postal Order. 
Each page cost 2 Rs. in case if we need any information in printed format. We have a right to inspect documents in public office. For inspection of the documents we need to pay, for first hour it's free and later on every hour it cost 5 Rs. If the applicant belongs to below poverty line (BPL) category then he/she is not require to pay any fee they will get information free of cost. In normal cases within 30 days we get information from the respective office. If officer failed to provide information within the time limit then information will be given free of cost to the applicant. In case if the information is wrong, then that officer will have to pay Rs. 250 to 25000 per day from his own pocket to the applicant. Provision has given to appeal to State and Central Information Commission in RTI Act-2005.
